Vegan fashion find

I haven't posted about cruelty-free fashion before on this blog, but aside from what I eat what I wear is also reflective of my choice to be vegan. I must say, when I first went vegan and realized leather was off the table I kind of had to ease into it. No more Coach bags? Really? Hemp? What's that? Sounds itchy. Every once in awhile a friend would send me a link to a vegan shoe site and I always thought the shoes looked frumpy. Not a stiletto to be found. Being fashionable in a Connecticut, young professional, Banana Republic fashion-sense sort of way and being vegan can be a challenge.

On our recent trip to Portland, OR, we happened upon a store called Herbivore. It was next door to Sweetpea Baking Co.—a vegan bakery, where we were having some treats for lunch. I popped into Herbivore—really just to browse—but then I saw this bag:

It's the Destiny Bag by ESPE. It comes with tote straps (which I prefer), two different shoulder straps and is available in quite a few colors. It's roomy, has great interior pockets for organizing all your necessities, and you would never know it's not leather. It doesn't feel cheap and synthetic at all—but it is—retailing for $68. It's probably the least expensive leather-ish handbag I've ever owned, and I'm contemplating getting it in a second color. (I have the blue/green one.) LOVE IT. You can shop ESPE's other bags too...there are a lot to choose from and they also make wallets & accessories.
